Date of birth:1980's
Parents:Monotype designers for Microsoft
Description:Classical sans serif
Nationality: British
20th century type, Arial;
Arial is the archetype of traditionnal sans serif typefaces. It is very close of the two most famous sans serif, Helvetica and Univers. However, there are subtle differences in the drawing of many letterforms. It is a simple and functional type and its graphic unity is remarkable. Designed for Microsoft by the designers team of Monotype, Arial is thanks to Windows as famous as Times New Roman.
Characteristics Strengths and Weaknesses;
Contemporary sans serif design, Arial contains more humanist charecteristics than many of its predecessors.The overall treatment of curves is softer and fuller than in most industrial style sans serif faces. Terminal strokes are cut on the diagonal which helps to give the face a less mechanical appearance. (being less mechanical is, I think better). So that it can be used for text settings, presentations,magazines, newspapers and advertisements.
Arial is found after Helvetica and Arial, known that it is similar with Helvetica. I think this is the only negative thing about Arial. Arial is as simple as Helvetica and it is used for Microsoft. There is a question, both typefaces are sipmle and look like eachother but Helvetica is used in daily life much more than Arial. I think, if two typefaces are similar, it becomes a little bit competative...

Name:Ad lib
Date of birth:1961
Parents:Freeman Craw
Description:Advertising type
Nationality: American
Unclassified type, Ad lib;
Designed by Freeman Craw for American Type Foundry (ATF) in 1961, this titling typeface reminds the woodcut types of the XIXth century. This angulous typeface has been widely used for the lettering of holliwood movies (Batman I for instance).
Characteristics Strengths and Weaknesses;
It is a bit like the fonts in comics. It seems enjoyable and it is useable for holliwood movies , cartoons. It is energetic and lively. But on the other hand, it is created only for holliwood movies, I think this means; the use of doman is not frequent. In my opinion, if a typeface is created, and if it is a good typeface, it must fit more subjects.
